The Ensemble Schrat, which first became active in 2006, was born from a desire to delve into the body of quintet works composed by Antoine Reicha in Paris between the years 1811 and 1821, which was seminal influence in the development of classical wind quintet music. Naturally, the works of Franz Danzi, Franz Lachner and Georg Onslow, all of which were created under the influence of Reicha's 25 great quintets, also took their place in the repertoire.

"Schrat and Friends" also expands itself into larger ensembles to include other wind instruments, string instruments and/or piano. In such instances the repertoire extends back to the 18th century, to Anton Rosetti and Wolfgang Mozart as well as to the early Romantic mixed ensembles, such those of Nepomuk Hummel and Louis Spohr.
